BELEDWEYNE( Halbeeg News)- Hiran administration has announced plans to impose curfew on Beledweyne town after violence in the town claimed the lives of three people.
The governor of Hiran region, Abdulahi Ahmed Malin, announcing the security drive after a security meeting held in the police station on Wednesday stated that three days night time curfew will be imposed on the town that will be effective from tonight.
“Hiran administration has decided to impose three nights curfew on Beledweyne town so as to keep the overall security of the town, I urge the forces to beef up the security” He added “ No one will be allowed to carry weapons in the streets of Beldweyne, I call upon the residents to abide by the decisions” he said.
On his side, the commander of Beledweyne police forces, Col. Isak Ali Abdulle who also addressed the media after a security meeting convened by Hiran administration said after long the discussions, the officials agreed to beef up the security of the region and prevent anything that might hamper the security.
“The security forces have full orders to take stern action against anyone that violates the decisions reached which are aimed to tighten the security. We have taken this action to reduce the violence in the town.” said Col. Isak.
The commander warned the public from carrying illegal weapons in the town.
At least three people were killed and five others wounded after gunfight erupted between heavily armed clan militias and security forces at Beledweyne police station on Tuesday.
The clashes erupted after clan militias stormed Beledweyne police station in an attempt to abduct a soldier who was detained at the police after he killed a rickshaw driver on Monday.
Angry protesters blocked the main roads that lead to the police station and the general hospital bringing transportation and business to standstill.
