JIGJIGA (Halbeeg News) – At least 20 Somali people were on Tuesday killed in renewed cross-border attacks by suspected Oromo militias in Ethiopia’s Somali state.
Since early this year, dozens of lives were lost in clashes between the Somali and the Oromo communities along their common border.
An estimated 1.1 million others were displaced
Reports say the victims were attacked at their homes near Somali regional state’s border with Oromia state.
Witnesses in Jigjiga town confirmed that the bodies were ferried to Jigjiga General Hospital.
The local authorities in Somali region have not commented on the latest incursions by the suspected Oromo militias.
Early this year, the leaders of both sides vowed to end the attack on civilians, initiate communal dialogue and help resettle those displaced in the 2017 violence.
Yet armed incursions and cross-border raids continue to occur in many parts of both states.
