HARGEISA (Halbeeg News) – The security agencies in the breakaway Somaliland state on Tuesday unearthed a car theft syndicate and arrested 20 suspects.
The syndicate, according to the police, has tentacles in Hargeisa and other places in the state.
Somaliland Police chief, Abdullahi Fadal Iman said the suspects were apprehended in coordinated security operations conducted across the region.
“Operations conducted by the forces nabbed 20 young people who were involved in the car theft syndicate. Some of them used to dismantle the parts of the vehicles. They used to commit at dawns and evenings. For the last two months 40 cars were stolen,” he said.
Mr. Iman called upon the public work with the police in the fight against the car theft syndicate.
Despite relative peace in the region, Somaliland which declared independence from the rest Somalia has not yet get recognition from the International community.
