JIGJIGA (Halbeeg News) – The members of Ethiopia’ Somali region Assembly have endorsed the newly appointed leader Mustafa Mohamud Omer.
The councils of Ethiopian-Somali People’s Democratic Party (ESPDP) have voted in favour the leader who will be replacing Mr. Ahmed Abdi Mohamed “Ilkacase” who has been leading the region for the past two weeks.
Mr. Omer who arrived in Jigjiga town on Sunday evening has appeared before the lawmakers.
The new leader has pledged sweeping reforms in the field of security, economy, and justice.
Last week, Ethiopian-Somali People’s Democratic Party (ESPDP)’s executive committee elected Mustafa Muhumed Omer to be acting president in its meeting.
Striping immunity
Mr. Omer, 45 will lead the Somali region until the next party congress 2020.
The council passed a decision to lift immunity from prosecution rights of seven members of Somali Regional State Councils.
In an interview with Ethiopian State Media – Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, Ahmed Shide, Chairman of Ethiopian Somali People’s Democratic Party said the members unanimously approved the decision to lift immunity from the seven lawmakers including the former leader of the region, Abdi Mohamud.
Other members whose immunity was lifted are:
Rahma Mohamed Haybe, Deqa Buraale, Omar Rooti, Abdijamal Ahmed Qalombi, Ibrahim Adan Saab and Ibrahim Adan.
on the other hand the regional parliament has termed unconstitutional 99 districts and 20 district councils formed by the former president of Somali region Abdi Mohamud Omar.
