BAL’AD ( Halbeeg News)- Somali government forces backed by African Union peace-keeping troops ( AMISOM) launched massive security operations in a number of villages along the main road connecting Jowahr and Bal’ad districts in Middle Shabelle region.
Osman Ahmed, a driver of one of the vehicles that ply along the road linking Mogadishu to the major towns in Middle Shabelle region said hundreds of heavily armed security forces were deployed in some villages in the area.
Ahmed said the hearing the sounds of occasional gunshot fired by the joint forces conducting the security operation in the area through they could not fix the reason behind the gunshot.
“The security forces were deployed along the main road, they beef up the security of the area; there are gunshots heard sometimes” said Ahmed.
The crackdown comes in the heel of a roadside bomb targeted with a convoy of AMISOM troops at Galooley village located 10 KM North of Bal’ad district on Friday.
According to sources, the blast has destroyed an armored vehicle belonging to African Union peace-keeping troops.
The immediate casualties of the attack were not confirmed as AMISOM declined to comment on the incident.
Al-Qaeda linked Al-shabab fighters have stepped up its attacks against security forces, AMISOM troops and government officials.
