BAL’AD( Halbeeg News)- Several mortar rounds fired at Bal’ad district in middle Shabelle region on Thursday night has left at least two civilians wounded.
Some of the local people in the area said they got terrified after they heard loud explosion at late hours of the night.
Two people, an elderly man and a young boy sustained light injuries after the mortar shells struck a residential area in Hawo Taako village of Bal’ad district.
The target of the mortar shelling is said to be AMISOM base located near the former clothes industry of Bal’ad district.
This shelling comes a time the government forces were planning to wage new offensives against Al-shabab controlled areas under the district.
No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack but federal government and security officials normally blame Al-shabab of carrying out such attacks.
Despite being pushed out of Mogadishu and other major cities in South and Central Somalia, Al-shabab fighters still carry out sporadic and ambush attacks against government forces and AMISOM troops plying along the road linking Mogadshu and Jowhar.
