BARAWE( Halbeeg)-Suspected Al-shabab fighter fired motor shells at Barawe airport in Lower Shabelle region on Sunday, killing at least person wounding two others.
The residents in Barawe district have reported hearing the sound of heavy explosion believed to be mortar bombing.
One person was killed and two others sustained injuries after astray mortars landed on a restaurant near Barawe airport.
It is believed that Al-shabab fighters targeted the mortar shelling with Barawe airport, a helicopter was landing at airport during the shelling as a local resident who remained anonymous due to security reasons confirmed.
The helicopter took off from the airport unhurt.
On other hand AMISOM troops fired heavy weapons in response to the shelling but no immediate reports of casualties it inflicted.
Al-shabab did not claim the responsibilities of the motor but the government normally blames the group of carrying out the attack.
The fighters carried out similar attacks in Mogadishu and other main towns in Southern Somalia.
