WASHINGTON D.C (Halbeeg News) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Saturday called on members of the Ethiopian diaspora living in Washington, D.C. to unite for the betterment of their East African country.
Addressing thousands of members of Ethiopian diaspora community at Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Abiy said Ethiopian should have to burry hostilities and open new pages for the future of the country.
“Let’s break the walls, let’s build a bridge. Let’s build a united Ethiopia. Let’s build one Ethiopian community,” said the prime minister, “Let’s look inward and take the best from our history and social values. Let’s join in common purpose. Let’s build a just society.”
He commended the Ethiopian diaspora for their role in the fight for democracy and equality terming them as “global ambassadors” of Ethiopia.
“We come to you not because of our immediate needs. It’s because you’re integral to our identity, our renewal, our democracy, our growth,” he told them.
Over 300,000 Ethiopians from different communities are living in Washington, D.C.
