BOSSASO (Halbeeg) – Puntland local authorities and local divers have mounted a search and rescue mission for five fishermen who went missing at sea at Gumbah area on Sunday evening after their boat capsized.
Six fishermen were in the boat during the time of the accident which occurred at around 5 pm, according to Gubah locality chief, Gure Ali Omar.
“It was around 5 pm when the boat reportedly capsized in the Indian Ocean waters at Gubah town. The authorities in coordination with locals divers have launched a search and rescue mission to find the missing fisherman,” he said
Omar who spoke to the local media said one person drowned and his body was recovered on Saturday evening while the five others are still in missing.
“The missing fishermen have not been found and that there is a high possibility they were pushed into the deep sea,” he stated.
The boat is said to have capsized due to excess weight.
