Kuwait (Halbeeg)- The government of Kuwait will host a donor conference in support of Education in Somalia, Kuwait diplomat said.
The Somali government is struggling to revive its education system which collapsed in 1990 when Somalia’s central government was overthrown.
The Arabian Peninsula nation is one of the countries help Somalia in education.
Kuwait’s ambassador to EU, Jasem Al-Budeiwi said the Gulf nation will hold a conference in Kuwait soon.
“We in Kuwait, firmly believe that education is one of the most important, if not the most import tool, in combating extremism, terrorism and poverty,” Al-Budeiwi during a speech at Somali Partnership Forum which was concluded on Tuesday in Brussels.
He pointed out that the Forum was an opportunity for the international community to review its commitment to review to supporting Somalia’s stability and development.
“Together, my friends, we will continue the efforts of the United Nations in Supporting Somalia’s transitional phase in every aspect,” he stated.
The donor conference to support education in Somalia will be held in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALESCO) and the Islamic Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
2017 only, the State of Kuwait provided USD 50 million in response to international calls to support the humanitarian situation in Somalia.
