Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested shortly after their flight landed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Airport. According to Geo.tv, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has taken Nawaz and Maryam in its custody.
According to Geo.tv, NAB said it has arranged two helicopters expected to take the father and daughter duo to Adiala jail.
Their flight, EY243 departed more than two hours late from Terminal 3 at Abu Dhabi airport.
Earlier, during the delay in Abu Dhabi, Maryam tweeted a picture of them from the airport lounge. She also retweeted videos and images of PML-N supporters gathering in several parts of Pakistan. They also used this time to send messages to their supporters, urging them to stand with ex-PM Sharif and “change the fate of the country”.
Authorities have mobilized more than 10,000 police officers for their arrival and blocked roads with shipping containers to shut down the city of Lahore.
