Mogadishu (Halbeeg)- Somali Defense ministry is set to open regional Military hospitals to meet the ever-rising healthcare demands from the Army as operations against Al-Shabab intensified.
The ministry will put up the new facilities in the regional state curb the medical challenges Somali National Army is facing.
Speaking to the media, the Director of Country’s Ministry for Defense, Sokor Jama’a said that the hospitals will be constructed in different regions across the country.
“We now fully understand that soldiers sustaining injuries during the fight against Al-Shabab should quick treatment, based on that, We are carrying initiatives to expand branches of the military hospital across regions of the country,” Jama’a said.
Somali Military has only one functioning hospital based in the capital which is away from the frontline.
The hospital which was refurbished last year by Italy currently operates.
Somali government in cooperation with U.S. and AMISOM troops stepped up the fight against Al-Shabab which controls a large swath of remote areas in South and Central Somalia.
Al-Shabab has been battling to depose Somali government since 2007.
