Afgooye (Halbeeg) – A roadside bomb struck a car Saturday southwest of the Somali capital Mogadishu, killing one soldier and injuring the governor of Lower Shabelle region and three other people, witness and medics confirmed.
The blast occurred on the main tarmac road linking Mogadishu to southwestern regions at Siinka-Dheer village, a journalist told Halbeeg News.
Mohamed Ibrahim, the governor of Lower Shabelle region, the district officer of Lofoole, Ayan Hassan Hajji and four of their bodyguards were wounded in the blast.
“The governor, the administrator of Lafoole locality and four of their bodyguards were injured after the vehicle they travelling in hit landmine,” said a journalist who visited the scene.
The reports say one of the bodyguards succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment in Madina Hospital.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack though previously Al-Shabab carried out similar attacks.
The blast comes hours after Al-Shabab fighters blew up the bridge spanning River Shabelle in Qoryooley town leading the residents of the town to remain cut off.
