Many traders counted their loses after Benadir administration demolished illegal structures built on road reserves in Mogadishu on Wednesday night.
In an intensive crackdown against illegal buildings, the administration has demolished several premises built on the roads between Bakara Market and Black sea suburb.
The deputy governor of Benadir region in charge of security, Mohamed Abdullahi Tulah and officials from the administration presided over the operation.
Speaking to the reporters, Tulah underlined that the administration carried the demolition to give room to the expansion of roads and restore the beauty of the roads.
He stated that the affected traders were given adequate notice to vacate from the buildings but did not heed the advice of the administration.
“We have been carrying out exercise to re-open the roads closed due to illegal structure built on the reserves, the traders were given notice and action will be taken against anyone who tries the same” said Tulah.
Early this month, the mayor of Mogadishu and the Governor of Benadir region Eng.. Abdirahman Omar Osman has ordered the destruction of the Piazza Libera building in Ceelgaab area.
The mayor stated that the administration has given notices for the owners of the premises on public lands but they failed to do so as directed by the administration.
