Somali forces have fought off an attack by suspected Al-Shabab fighters at SNA Camp in Qansahdhere town of Bay region.
Al-shabab has been attacking military bases in different regions of Somalia since the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The latest attack on a military in Lower Jubba region, the group killed one U.S soldier and wounded four following small arms and series mortor fire on the base in Baar-Sanguni north of Kismayo.
Salat Osman, SNA officer said the attackers invaded the camp at around 3am, resulting into an hour of gun battle that ended with the assailants retreating.
“We are waiting for confirmation of the extent of the damage and also if there were any casualties.” He said.
During the fighting, Ethiopian troops based in the town have sent reinforcement for SNA.
Qansahdhere local authorities and Al-Shabaab have not yet commented on the attack on the military base.
Al-Shabab which wants to topple Somali government has been in engaging deadly gun battle with Somali forces since 2007.
