The security of the road linking the capital city, Mogadishu and Burhakaba town in Bay region has been deteriorating the recent few weeks.
Armed groups dressed in military uniform normally torture and rob passengers and motorists plying along Mogadishu-Burhaba road.
Most of the motorists who travel on the highway between Mogadishu and Burhakaba road complain from extortion by militias who set up illegal roadblocks.
The administration of South West state expressed concerned over the increasing insecurity along road linking the main towns in the region.
The information minister of South West state, Ugas Hassan Abdi called on the federal government of Somalia and African Union peace-keeping troops to take immediate actions of curtailing these criminal networks that threatens the lives of the passengers plying along the main roads.
“Men armed with pistols threaten the security of the people and the motorist plying along the road connecting Mogadishu-Burhakaba road, the armed men rob the passengers of their belongings. If action is not taken immediately it will threaten the lives of the public” The minister said.
On the other hand, the motorists threatened to strike if the government fails to take action against the armed group endangering their lives.
Somali forces have pulled down road blocks in an operation aimed at easing transport and curtailing criminal networks which extort money from vehicles plying various routes in the region.
