Hundreds of residents of Bula-burde town have been marooned by floods from River Shabelle, official said.
Two suburbs of the town are the worst affected as families are forced to flee their homes.
Bula-burde district commissioner, Abdi Dahir Gure who spoke to Halbeeg News said the floods displaced residents in two villages of the town.
“In spite of the initial siege, the town again suffered as floods affected two suburbs along the river,” he noted.
He said many have sought accommodation from relatives and friends in neighbouring villages that have not been affected.
“The residents fled to other parts of the town where floods have not affected,” Gure said.
Gure pointed out that other people from Beledweyne town who were displaced by floods had reached Bula-burde town, adding the burden to the worsening situations of the town.
“People from Beledweyne town who hail from this town have returned to the town, as the administration of the town will do means and ways to rescue these people,” he explained.
The commissioner said there is a humanitarian crisis in the town as more people have been displaced from their homes by floods.
He called on the government and aid agencies to provide humanitarian assistance to the displaced, saying the floods have exposed them to hunger.
The commissioner declined to give comments on the exact number of the flood victims as he had no accurate figures.
