Unknown floating object suspected to be poisonous tank has been washed-up near El-Ma’an Port of Middle Shabelle region.
According to the locals, rusty container suspected to be toxic waste was recently seen on the shore.
The locals expressed concern over the object, fearing it could pose health hazard to the area.
In the wake of the report, officials from the government have started holding discussions with marine experts over the unknown object.
Officials from Somali Ministry for Port led by Somali Deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Ahmed Guled Minister, Maryan Aways and have visited Somali Marine Resource and Research Centre (SMRRC) where they held talks with officials from the centre over the issue.
The deputy prime minister told the officials at the research center to conduct investigations on tank and what it contains before it pose health problems to the community.
He also underlined the government’s commitment to reduce the impacts of hazardous tanks that are often seen on the shores of Somalia.
Such unknown objects have been witnessed around several beaches since Tsunami of 2004, and there are no official explanations or academic observation done on this.
For decades, members of crime syndicate and other Western Companies have been freely dumping tons of suspected radioactive nuclear wastes into the regulated shore of Somalia with the help of Somali mercenaries.
The dozens of rusty leaking hazardous waste tanks that have washing up on Somali shores date back to 1990s when decended into civil war.
Somali government has not yet established competent Marine forces that regulate and guard the nation’s territorial waters.
