The administration of Southwest state has started materialize its plan to set up of a large warehouse with high-tech cold rooms that will enhance the storage of medicines for a larger number of patients.

of the storage said the facility will have the capacity to store and preserve the medical supplies for two years.
“The hospitals in Southwest state will now get uninterrupted medical supply as this facility can supply medicines to all hospitals in the state. The cold rooms of the facility have the capability to store large amount of medicine,” Subag said.
He pointed out the administration of Southwest decided to build the facility which is the first of its kind in the region after the hospitals in state faced challenges of medical shortages.
“Challenges in storing medical supplies due to limited cold rooms, attributed to rising medical shortages and necessitated the set up of a bigger cold room to store more of the supplies for the state,” he explained.
The warehouse is targeting to start distribution of drugs and other medical supplies to districts and towns around Baidoa town.
“Healthcare doctors in under served areas are faced with a growing burden of complex disease management, aggravated by unreliable supply of essential medicines,” he said.
Somali government is trying to revive the defunct medical warehouses across the nation.
Last month, Puntland State opened the only forensic laboratory with the capacity of storing thousands of DNA samples.
The centre which is located in the state’s administrative capital; Garowe will serve the whole Somalia according to Puntland Health Ministry
