BAIDOA ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The registration of candidates for the speaker of the southwest state regional parliament has kicked off on Sunday.
According to the organizing committee of the elections, the registration will close by Monday to start other deliberations concerning the highly contested position.
The voting is scheduled for 1st April on Wednesday before the presentation of the candidates on Tuesday.
According to requirements, the interested candidates must resign from any official position before joining the race for the top post.
Somali Ambassador to European Union, Ambassador Ali Said Fiqi is among the favorite candidate.
Former regional speaker, Abdulkadir Sheikhuna Maye has dropped out of the race before the selection of the regional parliament.
95 new members of parliament who were sworn in last week will decide the next house leader and his two deputies.
