Kismayo – (Halbeeg) – Leaders from Somalia’s southern regional state, Jubbaland and AU officials are expected join up in the fight against Al-Shabaab ahead AU troops exit 2020.
In the second day of security meeting ongoing in Kismayo town, the sides discuss the security of the state and means to intensify operations to secure the region.
Ahmed Mohamed Madobe, who is chairing the meeting said his administration was committed to stepping up offensives against Al-Shabaab fighters.
“Jubbaland forces with the help of Somali Military will soon launch operations against Al-Shabaab in Jubbaland areas,” said Madoobe.
The leader noted that Somali Army and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) will support Jubbaland in the restoration of peace in the state.
Meanwhile, UA officials in the meeting pledged help Jubbaland state to train its forces and security restoration.
Jubbaland forces back Somali national army have recently recaptured several villages from Al-Shabaab fighters in Lower Jubba.
Al-Shabab still controls large swathes of territories in Lower and Middle Jubba regions as well as areas in Gedo region,
