Kenyan Police have announced the disappearance of three Kenyans who crossed Kenya’s border into Somalia to join Al-Shabab.
Director of communications Charles Wahong’o said the trio sneaked out early Wednesday with the help of local Al-Shabab contacts and are already undergoing training.
They are; Mohamed Abdalla Osman alias Papa or Raymond, Hamis Hemed alias Baloteli and Ali Ahmed Ali.
Wahong’o said Hamis Hemed alias Baloteli and Ali Ahmed Ali were from Malindi town whereas Raymond hails from Nairobi’s Muslim dominated Majengo area.
“The suspects plan to sneak back into the country to stage terror attacks. They are in contact with other suspected Al-Shabab within the country whom they are planning local attacks, Wahong’o said.
Wahong’o noted there are homegrown Al-Shabab sympathizers who support and facilitate the group’s mission in Kenya.
“We wish to warn parents, guardians or religious leaders withholding information on radicalization that they are liable for prosecution for abetting a crime,” he said.
According to some Kenyan media reports, Osman is an ex-convict who was released from jail in July 2017 after he was arrested by security agencies on October 4, 2013, while on his way to Somalia.
“At that time, he had been facilitated by Sheikh Ibrahim Umar alias Amru who taught him religion at Answar Sunna Mosque later made plans for his travel to Somalia but the plan never materialized. Osman was convicted, served at Garissa Prison, and then released on 12th July, 2017,” Standard Media reported.
