MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least several al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and villages liberated following security operations by the Somali military in central Somalia.
In a statement, the Somali military said its forces launched operations in the Mahas district.
According to the statement, Somali forces took over Emoy, Dhagahyale and Kilad-Gubadley villages under Buloburte district from Alshabab terrorists.
During the operation, the army seized boats that al-Shabaab used to cross the river and transport logistics.
The development comes days after al-Shabaab fighters killed over 20 people and torched more than seven trucks in Hiiraan region.
Among those killed are children and women. Al-Shabaab claimed to have killed clan militias.
The attacked convoy was said to be heading Mahas town.
Al-Shabaab has been fighting Somali forces and troops of the Africa Union Transition Mission in Somalia for the past decade.
