BELEDWEYN ( Halbeeg News) – New rains in Hiran and surrounding regions in the past 48 hours is threatening aid delivery for the flood-affected victims.
Ugaas Khalif airport in Beledweyn which is the main cornerstone for the supply of humanitarian assistance via air transport has been shut due to wet runway.
There was been eight hours’ continuous rainfall registered in the area in the past two days.
There are also fears of increased water from the Shabelle river though the level of the water has been decreasing in the past week.
On the other hand, aid for the affected families is arriving since the humanitarian appeal by the President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre.
Somali National Army 21st division delivered much-needed aid from Dhusamareb on Tuesday.
Aids from neighboring Puntland state has also reached the affected people in Beledweyn.
So far 11 people have been confirmed dead including government officials whose boat capsized in the river a week ago.
Turkey, Qatar and various UN agencies are taking a leading role in the operations.
