MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s acting permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hersi Haji Olosow has received a copy of the diplomatic credentials from the new Russian Ambassador in the country, Mr. Mikhail Golovanov on Wednesday.
Permanent Secretary wished the new ambassador success in the as his undertakes his new duties while assuring him of all support for the promotion of deep bilateral relations between the two friendly countries to closer cooperation in various fields.
Moscow and Mogadishu enjoyed close diplomatic and defense cooperation during the soviet era.
Russia had a military base in Berbera before fall out with President Siyad Barre government in late 1970s over Moscow involvement on Ethiopia- Somali war.
New diplomatic engagement is seen as balance of super power interest in the strategic horn of the Africa nation.
