MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali lawmaker who was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Mogadishu remains in “grave” condition at Erdogan Hospital.
Mohamed Mursal Borow, a federal MP from Southwest state was critically injured on Saturday night after an IED fitted to his car went off near the country’s national theatre.
Mr. Borow who was “bleeding profusely” from the abdomen had undergone several operations at the hospital, according to paramedics at Erdogan Hospital.
Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire has paid a courtesy visit to the Lawmaker who is currently recuperating at the hospital.
Mr. Kheire has condemned the attack and wished a quick recovery for Mr. Borow.
The personal driver of Mr. Borow was also killed in the attack which occurred at 9 pm.
Al-Shabab has claimed the responsibility for the attack which marks the first of its kind to target a federal lawmaker in Mogadishu since the beginning of this year.
In June, two regional lawmakers from Hirshabelle state were killed along with several of their bodyguards in an Al-Shabaab ambush in the outskirts of Somali capital.
The lawmakers, Sheikh Dahir, and Ismail Mumin died in the fighting which took place in the village of Elka Gelow, some 45 km (28 miles) north of Mogadishu.
Al-Shabab carries out deadly attacks on military bases, government installation, and hotels in Somalia’s major towns including the capital city.
The group aims to drive the Africa Union-mandated peacekeeping force AMISOM from Somalia.
