MOGADISHU (HAlbeeg News) – Somali National Army (SNA) has captured suspected Al-Shabaab bomb expert in Lower Shabelle region, a military official said Saturday.
The Somali government has increased operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in Southern Somalia.
Abdi Ahmed Ali, the commander of the 14th battalion of Somali National Army (SNA) who spoke to military-owned radio said Somali military arrested high-value Al-Shabaab figure in an operation that took place in Marka town.
“The forces nabbed the suspect near the town’s bridge while planting Improvised Explosive Device (IED) under the bridge,” he said.
Mr. Ali identified the detained suspect as Suleiman Omar Abdulle.
The commander vowed that they will continue operations against Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle region.
Meanwhile, Somali forces in Afgooye town have managed to repulse an attempted Al-Shabaab attack on their camp at Bulo Folyo in the outskirts of the town.
A military officer told the media that the 4.30am attack found the Somali forces on high alert.
“The attackers started by hurling explosives into the camp before shooting at officers but luckily no one was injured,” he said.
He said the all the military camps in the town are always on high alert since Al-Shabab fighters are active in the area.
