ADDIS-ABABA (Halbeeg News) – The former President of the Ethiopian Somali Regional State, Abdi Mohammed Omar, and several high-level regional officers have been brought before the court today.
Late last month, Mr. Omer was arrested on suspicion of gross human rights violations as well as instigating ethnic and religious violence.
Three former ministers identified as Rahma Mohammed Haibe, former minister of women and children; Abdurazak Sani, former minister of diaspora and Sultan Mohammed, former minister of irrigation development, were charged along with Omer.
Meanwhile, the police requested for an additional 14 days to complete their investigation on the suspects and the court allowed the requested time.
Mr. Omer asked for bail rights mentioning that he was sick being diagnosed for hypertension, gastric ulcer and poor provision of health facilities and meals at the detention centers he is being held at.
Finally, the court adjourned the case for late this month.
