MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali elite forces backed by continental troops on Wednesday launched dawn attack on Al-Shabaab bases in Middle Shabelle region.
Reports say Somalia’s comandos aka Danab troops and forces from African Union recaptured Basra village following a brief gun battle with Al-Shabaab fighters.
Military commanders said several Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the attack.
The Somali military has claimed a number of achievements in the ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab.
The officials confirmed the forces secured the villages and started conducting joint security operations in and outside the village.
Meanwhile, Somali National Army Commander in charge of the 43rd Division in Jubbaland, Mohamed Bulle told the press that four senior Al-Shabaab combatants and seven low ranking militants were killed in the latest operations in Lower Jubba’s Muse Hajji and Arare villages.
Bulle stated that during the operation, the Army destroyed Al-Shabaab’s bases in the two villages and seized two of their “battlewagons” — pickup trucks with weapons mounted on the back.
