DHUSA-MAREEB( Halbeeg News)- The drivers and the owners of vehicles operating along the road linking Galgadud and Mudug regions complain of increasing roadblocks set by armed militias.
Most of these roadblocks were set between Galinsoor and Bandiiradley towns in the region.
Mohamud Ahmed, one of the drivers that operate along this road told local media that the armed men extort unaffordable amount of money from the drivers that ply along the road.
“They [the armed militias] demand a lot of money we cannot afford to pay, we cannot use the road if we don’t pay the money. We spend a lot of money to save our lives” said Mohamud.
Mohamud also highlights that the armed men sometimes open fire on the vehicles without warning adding that the fire has severally caused on the passengers and the drivers.
“We encounter problems from these roadblock set by armed men, there is no exact place they set roadblocks, they are everywhere. If the drivers fail to pay the money, the armed rob the passengers on board of the vehicles” said Mhamud.
Finally Mohamud called on the federal federal government of Somalia and Galmudug state to take action of removing these illegal roadblocks that affects the transportation and movement of people within the two regions.
Galmudug forces carried out several operations to remove the illegal roadblocks set by the armed miitias but no change was so far felt according the owners and the drivers.
