World Bank is implementing an urbanization project aimed at giving room for the growth of Garowe town, the administrative capital of Puntland. In this project roads and bridges will be constructed.
The year 2018 alone, the World bank will construct 4 roads among 19 roads of the project as the remaining roads and two bridges will be constructed after the end of the year.
The project was planned to be completed on 2017 but was delayed severally due to technical problems.
World Bank focal person of the project, Asad Abdrahman Gure stated that they will start construction of four standard roads.
“This is a construction project and it is the first project world bank implements in Somalia. We have planned to construct 19 roads and two bridges, but now we will construct four roads” said Asad.
The general secretary of Garowe local government, Mohamed Ali Gurey said the construction of the roads will start soon adding that it will be great importance to Garowe town.
“These roads are already planned; it was planned before, one the roads are the one that passes Waberi- that is Sodonks road. These four roads are important to easy movement and easy transportation within the town and it also will enhance business” said Mohamud.
This is the first project World Bank is implementing in Puntland state.
