GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – A woman in northeastern Somalia was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of $2,000 for selling traditional home-brewed spirit,
Habibo Ali Osman was arraigned in Nugal Regional Court of Garowe town in Puntland State.
According to Nugal Regional Prosecutors, the woman had been playing hide and seek game with the law as she had previously arrested four times but had been released.
The prosecutor accused her of being a threat to the morality of society.
Habibo denied the charges, saying it had been fabricated, but admitted that she had limited involvement in smuggling.
The chairman of the Nugal Regional Court, Sheikh Abdinur Jama Hussein sentenced, the woman to five years in prison and a fine of $2,000.
She had 21 days to seek appeal against the verdict.
