MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Muslims in Somalia have offered prayers and sacrifice goats and cows for Eid-Al-Adha Holiday on Friday, marking the second major religious festival of Islam.
Somali leaders have congratulated the public on the occasion of Eid-Al-Adha, wishing the country peace and prosperity.
With observation measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus, the country called on the public to keep distancing.
Somalis and other muslims around the world observe the event, which is a three-day Islamic festival starting from today.
This is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year.
Eid-Al-Adha is held at the end of the Hajj pilgrimage and sees family and friends gather for feasts, gift-giving, and prayers.
The day is meant to honour the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command.
Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca and is associated with the life of Islamic prophet Muhamed peace be upon him.
Mecca was the birthplace of Muhamed and is regarded as the holiest city in Islam.
