NAIROBI ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated the good working relations with neighboring Somalia despite recent tension along the border.
Speaking during an interview with France 24 TV President Kenyatta said Mogadishu and Nairobi share close cooperation mainly in the security sector in the fight against terrorism posed by the armed group al Shabaab.
“We have good working relations with the Somali government and the attacks along the border are conducted by al Shabaab.”
The two countries have recently experienced diplomatic tensions linked to the border wall and claims of Mogadishu towards Nairobi’s on the interference of domestic affairs via Jubbaland state administration.
The maritime dispute case already at the international court of justice has also been another burning issue between the two countries after Somalia turns down requests by Kenya to resolve the case outside the court.
Despite the diplomatic challenges in recent years, Somalia and Kenya share strong business cooperation rejuvenated by the Somali business community in Kenya and the skilled Kenyan workforce in Somalia.
