NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Wajir East member of Parliament, Rashid Kassim was on Friday arraigned in court on charges of assaulting a fellow female lawmaker.
The lawmaker was accused of assaulting Wajir Women Representative, Fatima Gedi Ali.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, the lawmaker denied charges of assault and causing actual body harm on the woman leader.
While pleading for bail, Kassim’s lawyers told the court the politician developed mental problems on the night of Thursday and was rushed to Aga Khan hospital for medication thus needed attention.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi released him on a bond of Sh100,000 with one surety or an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000.
The hearing of the case set for 6th August 2019.
Kassim was arrested Thursday evening after he allegedly assaulted Ms. Gedi.
The lawmaker was said to have rained blows on Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi.
The incident happened at the Parliament parking lot as the woman representative was walking to Protection House in the company of her Homa Bay county counterpart, Gladys Wanga.
