NAIROBI (Halbeeg)- Slaughterhouses in Wajir County have been reopened after the authorities in the county lifted a ban on consumption of meat and milk.
The ban was imposed two months ago after cases of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) reported in the county.
The health officials said the spread of the disease has been contained.
Abdirahman Mathow Abdi Wajir county Health Chief Officer said the ban has been lifted as the county overcame the spread of the disease.
“We have contained the spread of the disease now We have certified that threat posed by the disease was minimized. We have decided to lift the ban,” Mr. Abdi said.
Mr. Abdi said RVF has been contained but the lifting of the ban is subject to review should the situation change.
Six people had died of the disease in Wajir County and four others were hospitalized since the disease broke out in the county.
According to Daily Nation, a newspaper based in Nairobi, Many of the victims affected by the virus were men, aged between 21 and 30 years, because of their active participation in the slaughtering of animals.
