WAJIR (Halbeeg News) – Voting has today started in Wajir West constituency by-election for a seat which fell vacant after Kenya’s Supreme Court nullified Ahmed Kolosh’s election over irregularities at the Qara polling station.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) say it is all systems go in.
Voting in almost all polling stations started at 6 am local time and is expected to conclude by 5 pm.
The elderly and disabled were given priority in the exercise.
In Some remote polling stations, electronic voting kits failed, but the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials had to fill Form 32A to allow affected voters cast their ballot.
Wajir West constituency has 27,444 registered voters, according to the latest statistics by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The agency has said that it’s prepared to deliver free and fair poll in the Wajir West exercise.
“Wajir West Constituency has four wards: Arbajahan, Hadado/Athibohol, Adam Admasajide and Ganyure/Wagalla.
“There are 27,544 registered voters in 75 polling stations. The tallying centre is at Griftu Pastoralist Training Center in Griftu Town, ” IEBC said.
The ruling party, Jubilee’s candidate Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed and Kanu’s Ibrahim Mohamud are battling out for the seat.
