MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – US government has reiterated a call to end violence in Las Anod town in northern Somalia amid shelling and gunfire continue.
Somaliland forces and vigilantes dubbed SSC forces in Las Anod town who have been fighting direct for the last three weeks are amassing reinforcement.
SSC forces have claimed to have captured bases vacated by Somaliland forces. Somaliland dismissed the claims, saying their forces repelled the attack.
According to medics, over 100 people were killed and more than 600 others were wounded since the war started.
Last week, US delegation visited Hargeisa town of Somaliland to discuss with Somaliland authorities over the ongoing violence in Las Anod of Sool region.
“We are gravely concerned with the violence in Lascanood…. We call for an immediate de-escalation of violence, the protection of civilians, unimpeded humanitarian access, and for tensions to be resolved peacefully through dialogue.” – US ambassador at UN, Linda Thomas.
According to sources, heavy fighting breaks out again in eastern Lasanod city, a day after Tukaraq takeover by SSC forces.
The conflict continues for 4th straight week and calls for easefire failed.
