MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – US government has welcomed the approval and subsequent handing over of office to Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre hours after Hamza assumed office in Mogadishu.
In a statement, the US embassy in Mogadishu pledged that they work with the Somali government over bilateral relations and shared goals.
“Congratulations to Hamza Abdi Barre on your confirmation as Somalia’s
Somalia’s PM. We reaffirm our commitment to the U.S.-Somali partnership and look forward to working together to achieve our shared goals,” the statement reads in part.
The congratulatory statement comes hours after Hamza assumed the office as the country’s 21st Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Hamza said his government would launch offensives to liberate areas under al-Shabaab to make the nation peaceful and prosperous.
Hamza is expected to form his new cabinet.
