Two Al-Shabab fighters have been killed and three others were injured in an airstrike, US military said Wednesday.
The strike against the group which took place at Mubarak town about 65 kilometer Southwest of Mogadishu also destroyed destroyed a vehicle, US Africa Command said in a statement.
“US forces conducted airstrikes against Al -Shabab on the morning of March 19 near Mubrak, Somalia, killing two fighters, wounding three others and destroying one vehicle,” the statement reads in part.
“US forces will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect US citizens and to disable terrorist threats. This includes partnering with AMISOM and Somali National Security forces ( SNSF) in combined counter-terrorism operations and targeting terrorists, their training camps and safe havens throughout Somalia and the region” the statement reads further.
The attack comes three months after a U.S air raid destroyed a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) which was heading to Mogadishu in a heavy coordinated plan to carry out explosions.
The vehicle was destroyed near Mubarak village by missile from U.S. drone.
Mubarak is riverside Al-Shabab stronghold village in Lower Shabelle region.
U.S military drones had attacked the village more than 12 times since last year.
Al-Shabab is waging attack against Somali government and its allied African Union troops in a bid to overthrow the government.
