BOSASO (Halbeeg News) – United States (US) military airstrikes have killed eight Al-Shabaab fighters in a joint operation with Puntland forces in northeastern Somalia.
Puntland officials who confirmed the attack said the local forces backed by U.S drones launched operations in the mountainous areas.
The airstrikes occurred in Mirale which is located 28 KM east of the strategic port city of Bosaso in the Puntland regional state of Somalia.
No comment from the United States Africa command press department so far on the attack.
More than sixty Alshabaab fighters were killed by similar strikes conducted by US warplanes on 15th and 16th of December in the vicinity of Gandarshe in the lower Shabelle region.
U.S. Africa Command said in a press statement on Monday that it will continue to work with the Federal Government of Somalia, Somali National Army, and AMISOM forces, use all effective and appropriate methods to protect the Somali people.
