MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 10 have been killed and 20 others wounded after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the General Dhagabadan military facility in the Wadajir district of Mogadishu.
“A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of General Dhagabadan military training camp. There are unspecified casualties, military officials reported,” state media had said earlier.
Army Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Odawa Yusuf Rageh who confirmed the attack said the attacker was waiting among new recruits who were queuing up outside the camp.
The injured people were taken to Mogadishu’s Madina Hospital, according to the Reuters news agency.
In a statement, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
“A suicide bomber struck a Turkish military base in the capital, Mogadishu shortly after noon. The death toll from the blast is 40 soldiers and the number of wounded is 50, “said a statement aired Radio Andalus.
The base was named after General Abdikarim Yussuf Dhagabadan, a former military who led operation to drive al-Shabaab out Somali capital in 2011.
Dhagabadan was killed in al-Shabaab attack on Sahafi hotel in Mogadishu in 2015.
