Hundreds of heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters staged a dawn attack on a military base in Bar-Sanguni town .
Military reinforcements were immediately dispatched and were moving to the scene when another explosive went off along their way, injuring five soldiers.
Sources told Halbeeg News that explosive device went off between Kismayu and Bar-Sanguni.
The attack was reminiscent of Monday morning deadly attack on the military base which is jointly operated by the Somali national army and forces from Jubbaland region of southern Somalia.
Our correspondent in the region says the attack claimed lives of over six soldiers.
The Somali government has not yet commented on the incident.
Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack on the military base saying its fighters killed 27 Somali soldiers in the attack.
“We first attacked the base with a suicide car bomb and then stormed. We killed 27 soldiers and took the base. Some soldiers fled into the jungles,” Abdiasis Abu Musab, Al-Shabab’s military operation spokesman said.
The base lies some 50 km (31 miles) away from the port city of Kismayu.
