BELET-HAWO (Halbeeg News) – At least eleven people have been killed in fighting in Belet-Hawo town near Somalia-Kenya border.
According to Dr. Mohamed Gomey based in the town, five children from the same family are among those killed in the dawn attack on the town.
Dr. Gomey said the children died and their mother sustained serious injuries after their home hit by motor shell.
Belet-Hawo deputy police commissioner Mohamed Abdi Nur and his two bodyguards were also killed in the fighting.
Dr. Gomey also confirmed that 14 others were injured in the fighting.
Pictures and videos circulating on social media show images allegedly said to be Janan forces under captivity of federal forces.
In earlier statement, the Federal Government said the forces commanded by the fugitive Jubbaland Security Minister Abdirashid Janan organized and support by Kenya attacked the town last night.
“Kenyan backed group cross the border tonight and attacked Gedo region but Somali National Army repelled the foreign organised invasion,” Information Minister Osman Dube said in a statement Monday morning.
“We strongly condemn this aggression organised from inside Kenya which violates peaceful coexistence of people of the region and international norms based on respect and protection of national sovereignty.”
