MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Unified Somali Secondary Schools National Examinations has officially kicked off across the country on Saturday.
According to the ministry of education, more than 31,500 students are sitting for the national exams across 105 examination centers in which 71 centers are in the capital, Mogadishu alone and 34 other centers in the regional state administrations.
Security has been heightened and extra invigilators put in place to curb cheating practices.
Speaking to the press, Abdirahman Mohamud Mohamed, the state Minister for Education said special facilities would be provided for physically challenged students during the examination period.
The test which will run for five days from Saturday kicked off with Somali language paper in the morning and Islamic studies in the afternoon session.
It will conclude with Physics and Geography on Wednesday.
Students from the Puntland regional state of Somalia are not taking part in the significant examination after regional administration educational officials turned down Ministry of Education call for their participation.
