MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Thousands of students will be sitting for their 12th-grade final exams on May 27 across Somalia, the Ministry of Education confirmed Wednesday.
In a statement, the ministry said the exercise will take place in all the Federal Member States and Banaadir Region save for Puntland state.
Ten subjects including Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, English, Somali, History and Geography will be examined, in an exercise expected to be held under tight security to deter cheating, and also to guard against disruption by insurgents.
The Federal Government introduced the standardized national exams for primary schools in 2015 with the first batch of 7,000 sitting for the test.
The federal government of Somalia has made tremendous progress in reforming the education system, which came to a halt, with the collapse of the central government in 1991.
Decades of conflict have led to Somalia having one of the world’s lowest enrolment rates for school-aged children.
