MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Two unidentified gunmen have shot and killed popular elder in Mogadishu on Sunday night.
Ibrahim Arif was shot multiple times inside a mosque in Jungal neighborhood in Yaqshid district.
Reports say he was part of electoral delegates that took part in the selection of Somali members of parliament in 2016 elections.
Witnesses said two men armed with pistols went inside the mosque where the renowned peace activist was performing his Ramadan prayers.
The criminals escaped before the security agencies arrived at the scene.
Police are conducting investigations to track down the perpetrators of the attack.
It is not immediately clear the main motive behind the attack but armed group al-Shabaab which targets similar attacks in the city have intensified their rounds against government targets during the holy month of Ramadan.
