NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – The U.N. Security Council has “paid tribute to Kenya’s role in the fight against terrorism,” particularly in the African Union peacekeeping force fighting al-Shabaab in neighbouring Somalia.
In an article published by AP, the UN body condemned the attack in Nairobi which claimed lives of over 20 people “in the strongest possible terms” and calls for the perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors to be brought to justice.”
The council reiterated that “any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation.”
On 15th this month, five armed men suspected to be al-Shabaab members stormed an upscale Nairobi hotel complex, taking at least 21 lives and injured hundreds.
The operation to illuminate the attackers took 20 hours and Kenyan security forces claimed to have all five attackers.
Among the victims were 16 Kenyan, one was British, one was American, and three were of African descent.
