Hiran governor, Abdullahi Ahmed Maalin on Thursday held discussions with the head of United Nations Assistance Mission In Somalia (UNSOM), Benjamin Jonah outside Beledweyne town.
Beledweyne town was inundated with heavy floods following torrential rains in April.
The two leaders who met at El-Jale locality talked about the damage caused by the floods.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jonah said the UNÂ will support the administration of Hiran in Central Somalia.
The head of UNSOM has pledged that the UN will take part in the efforts to refurbish flood-affected areas in Beledweyne town.
He also pointed out that they will implement projects to construct levees and culvert bridges near Beledweyne Airport which will divert the floods from the airport.
“We pledge that we will take part in the efforts to avert floods flowing towards the airport, therefore, you should play your role to refurbish all areas affected by the floods,”
For his part, the governor said his administration in cooperation with the public repairing the damages caused by the floods.
“In cooperation with the public, We will start reconstruction and repairing of damaged areas near the airport,” Maalin.
