BAIDOA(Halbeeg-News)-A delegation led by deputy Special Representative for United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) Rai Zenenga has arrived in Baidoa, the administrative capital of Southwest state.
Mr. Zenenga and other officials from UN were received by Southwest state officials at the airport.
Southwest State’s acting president Abdikadir Sharif Shekhuna and Mr. Zenenga held talks about the state’s upcoming presidential election.
The visit of Mr. Zenenga comes on the heel of the visit the new United Nations envoy to Somalia, Nicholas Haysom who met with the immediate former leader of Southwest state, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden over tensions between the country’s federal government and state authorities and the upcoming elections.
The regional assembly of South West State is due to hold presidential election on 17 November.
Similar votes will take place in the Federal Member States of Puntland and Jubbaland in 2019.
